Protection of Children
The horror of child abuse, often intertwined with domestic violence against women, is a specter that continues to traumatize too many lives in New Jersey. The Foundation supports organizations that assist our most vulnerable citizens, children and their mothers, who are fleeing domestic violence by supporting shelters that provide care and the ability to transition to safe and secure permanent homes. We also support organizations dedicated to helping children who are struggling with learning disorders or mental health issues.
Humane Treatment of Animals
The Foundation supports organizations that provide and advocate for the humane treatment of animals, including animal shelters as well as organizations that seek to identify animal abusers and bring them to justice.
Breast Cancer Research
The Foundation supports the Betty Torricelli Institute for Breast Care located at Hackensack University Medical Center, which collaborates with international and national research partners to conduct research studies and clinical treatment trials.
Preservation of Open Spaces
in New Jersey
With the constant pressure of development and the difficulty of maintaining economically viable agricultural uses in New Jersey, more and more tracts of open land every year are being turned into residential or industrial developments. Senator Torricelli worked for many years to help secure open space throughout the state and to expand national and state parks. Accordingly, the Foundation aims to support the purchase of important parcels of open space.
Promoting Progressive Policies
The Foundation promotes the discussion of public policy issues consistent with its mandate. Progressive organizations hosting non-profit conferences designed to promote the understanding of policy alternatives for child welfare, health care, animal welfare, open space, environmental protection and other issues are prospects for Foundation support.
